Hiroyuki Wakabayashi is executive vice president of DENSO Corporation in Kariya, Aichi, Japan. He oversees DENSO's overall Production, Safety & Environmental, Quality Center and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Tokyo University, Wakabayashi joined DENSO Corporation (formerly Nippondenso Co., Ltd.) in 1979.
Wakabayashi began his career in the Production Engineering Division, where he was responsible for the development of resin materials. While in this division, he contributed to significant reduction in weight and costs of automotive components such as radiators by using newly developed resin materials.
In recognition of Wakabayashi’s material development expertise, he was appointed to director of the Material Engineering Research and Development Division in April 2001. During his tenure, he led the development of various materials including a highly rigid material for common rail systems and corrosion-resistant materials for thermal components.
Wakabayashi became project director of the Quality Control Division in January 2006, and was named one of DENSO’s executive directors in June 2006. In 2011, he became the leader of the Information and Safety System Business group. He was promoted to senior executive director in June 2013 and oversaw ADAS technology strategy. Wakabayashi was promoted to executive vice president in April 2017.
