Nippondenso started the Denyukai in the 1950s, not long after the company's founding. It was started after participating in the All-Toyota Games and was based on the belief that the power of sports contributes to the vitality of employees and fosters a sense of unity in the workplace. This sports culture has changed form over the years, but it has been passed on to this day, including in the holding of events such as the DENSO company sports day, which still attracts the participation of many employees.
In the 2000s, some parts of the Denyukai were designated as clubs to be reinforced. The aim was for them to become the best in Japan in each competitive league and tournament. The clubs have also produced athletes who have been active on the world stage, including in the Olympics. DENSO has consistently put effort into company sports with the three main objectives of "delivering vitality for employees," "connecting with the community," and "contributing to the development of the sporting world in Japan."
Currently, as DENSO Corporation, the company operates six women's sports clubs (the volleyball, basketball, softball, long distance track and field, table tennis, and rowing clubs). The Group companies are also supporting athletes taking on the world in sports including archery, ice hockey and sport climbing.
Furthermore, based on the belief that the power of sports can help solve social problems, each club is also making an effort to promote the spread of sports, particularly in the municipalities where the clubs base their operations. This includes efforts such as providing opportunities for local residents to experience the sports, and opening sports academies for children.
