9. DENSO (Changzhou) Fuel Injection System Co., Ltd.(DMCF) established
1. DENSO (Changzhou) Fuel Injection System Co., Ltd. established
As awareness of environmental protection grows around the world, vehicle emissions regulations are getting stricter, and China is no exception. DENSO started technical training related to the fuel injection system CRS (common rail system) at its training center as early as 2006, and formulated a business plan to produce related products locally by 2010. In early 2007, the Chinese government issued regulations on automobile emission control (Country III: National Stage 3 Standards) and announced that they would begin implementation in 2008. From DENSO’s perspective, if it were to rely on its Japanese headquarters plant for the production all products, following the conventional import-based supply system, the supply would clearly fail to meet the demand of the Chinese market. The company decided to accelerate localized production of fuel injection system related products in order to best meet customer needs, if it was to respond to the implementation of the new policy.
Thus, in June 2007, DENSO (Changzhou) Fuel Injection System Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “DMCF”) was established. Thanks to the full support of the DENSO Group and the collective efforts of local officials, all the preparatory work was completed in just one and a half years, and production of diesel products officially started in January 2009. This establishment and operation of DMCF fully embodied the DENSO Group’s customer-first management philosophy and the DENSO Spirit. The establishment of DMCF required the shortest preparation time in the history of the DENSO Group, and the common rail system for diesel engines it produced was the first of its kind, even in China at the time. The establishment of this company, which was a huge challenge for DENSO (China) Investment (hereinafter, “DICH”) and the DENSO Group, was a major breakthrough in the development of DENSO’s China business, and a valuable model of success.
2. Unity ceremony for increasing profitability of DMCF
On June 26, 2015, DMCF held a unity ceremony to increase its profitability. The ceremony began with a speech by DMCF President Nagasaka, who expressed his gratitude for everyone’s compliance with the regulations established during the time of the first President, Mr. Kibune, the “leaner plant” (waste eliminating) activities promoted during the time of another former President, Mr. Nagata, the training of DMCF’s core personnel, and the DMCF staff providing their silent support in the background. He also told DMCF that it must work hard to develop into an indispensable hub for DICH and China in the future. Employees must hold on to this determination and, together with President Nagasaka, and the rest of the company, aim to expand its business and profits and build a company that is admired by the people of China. After this speech, the guests and all the employees at the venue watched a video that the secretariat had sincerely produced. The video depicted events from the company’s foundation to the present day, which many of the employees found very impressive.
Afterward, Mr. Murakami, President of DICH, made a speech in which he expressed his sincere respect for everyone’s diligent work and effort. He also expressed his hope that DMCF’s managements and all its employees would unite with greater confidence, contribute to improving the environment in China by producing a common rail system for diesel engines, and gain recognition from regional governments, thereby becoming an indispensable company for Chinese society and the DENSO China Group. Mr. Takeuchi, DENSO’s business unit head, also congratulated DMCF on achieving profitability in fiscal year 2014. He went on to set out three expectations based on the premise that DMCF will build on its “solid foundation” to achieve continued profitability. The first priority is safety, the second is strict adherence to standard work, and the third is the realization of globally uniform quality at DENSO. At the same time, he said the Diesel Business Unit would continue to provide its full support.
After speeches from the guests, a DMCF employee representative, Ruibo, gave an address. He talked about how a company’s development is closely linked to the direct interests of its employees, and how it is their responsibility to live alongside the company and share in its destiny. Taking what we have achieved today as the starting point for tomorrow, all DMCF employees will uphold the DENSO Spirit by actively participating in various activities, especially EF activities (Excellent Factory creation), and will keep contributing to the expansion of profitability in future. Finally, the event’s secret special guest, a camera-mounted drone, appeared above the stage, and all the employees and guests waved enthusiastically at it in response. Their smiles recorded by the drone, and the cherry trees bearing the names of employees, all seemed to herald a brighter future for DMCF.
