The DENSO Group in India started its business 40 years ago in 1984 as DENSO India Ltd., or DNIN (a joint venture with SRF India). Since then, our business has expanded with the beginning of operation in 1998 of DNKI, in 1999 DNHA and DIIN (Name changed from DSIN in 2010), 2001 DTPU, and 2011 DSEC, and the strengthening of our partnership with Indian manufacturer Subros through increase in the business share.
Looking back on our history, while the DENSO Group in India has grown steadily along with the Indian automotive industry, in the past we have been repeatedly hit hard by the unstable Indian economy and suffered from multiple financial setbacks due to numerous government regulations and restrictions. Each time, however, all our employees in India have collaborated to overcome this business slump with a strong desire to protect the company and a never-give-up spirit. During this process, the company and the union have maintained a dialogue, both sides understanding the importance of communication as we faced these challenges with a united mindset. The India Group’s current operations have been made possible thanks to the efforts of our predecessors and the unwavering support of those in the regions and at headquarters during each business crisis, and I am deeply grateful to all concerned. For the DENSO Group to grow sustainably in the Indian environment, we need to learn from this history of overcoming environmental changes time and again, ensuring that the attitudes of our predecessors are passed on to future generations.
When we look at India today, as the world's most populous country (overtook China in 2023), while its GDP has also jumped to fifth largest in the world. Having established itself as a leader in the Global South at last year’s G20 meeting, India is now attracting even more attention.
In this context, when we consider and organize our own vision for India’s mobility society, a number of key phrases come to mind. Here are some examples:
- An environmentally friendly multi-pathway that meets diverse needs and a high supply of renewable energy.
- A broad-based automotive industry that grows together, contributing to “Make in India,” employment expansion, and human resource development.
- Highly efficient energy circulation linking developing cities and rural areas, which account for 60% of the population.
- Establishment of a “data connected mobility society” promoted on the initiative of India, an IT kingdom, itself.
While focusing on the above key phrases, the DENSO Group in India must from now on change its mindset to be more outward-looking than ever before, and quickly identify signs of change and potential needs. Based on this, we will take on challenges together as one, firmly identifying the roles we should play and the areas where we can contribute in terms of products, Monozukuri (manufacturing), and human resource development. Furthermore, if there is anything we cannot do on our own, we will proactively find a good partner and collaborate to produce great results with a sense of urgency.
In the future, just as in the past, we hope that the DENSO Group in India will continue to achieve sustainable growth as India develops.
