The year was 1986, and for DENSO, it was a night to remember - the night they executed their first project. This was a crucial moment for the company, and every member of the team had their eyes fixed on this milestone.

A Golden Day in History

February 20th, 1986 marked the beginning of an incredible journey. SRF NIPPONDENSO started the production of electrical parts (alternator starter and wiper motor) for 4 wheelers with the delivery of the First Consignment batch of 100 alternators G3A in precisely 17 cases to Maruti Udyog Limited (JV with Suzuki, Japan) at it’s works in Gurgaon. The moment when a paper flag reading "Hatsuni" (The First Dispatch) was placed onto the delivery truck is a poignant memory for all the members.

Ingredients of a Successful Recipe - Talent, Innovation, and Commitment

The story of DENSO India is one of grit, passion, and perseverance. It's a story of a group of individuals who came together with a dream of building something special. They weren't just building a company, but they were creating a legacy that would stand the test of time. DNIN’s success story is a testimony to the power of talent, innovation, and commitment. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients that make up its successful recipe.

Assembling the Dream Team

In 1985, the first group of associates was recruited, infusing fresh talent and enthusiasm into the company. Handpicked for their potential, these individuals were eager to be part of an Indo-Japanese organization offering a promising future. After several written tests and interviews, a total of 26 talented associates with a spark in their eyes were hired at DNIN.

A Training Ground for Excellence

The new recruits underwent tailored vocational training at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Faridabad, designed to prepare them for the challenges of working with DENSO's machinery. By introducing Japanese concepts like Resiki cards and the 5S system [meaning Seiri (Sorting), Seiton (Arrangement), Seiso (Cleaning), Sieketsu (Cleanliness) and Shitsuke (Discipline)], the training not only enhanced workplace efficiency but also enriched personal lives and fostered overall well-being among associates. DNIN also introduced a practice of physical exercise every morning to help refresh the team. The practice wasn’t prevalent in India, and DENSO was way ahead of its time because it cared about its workforce.

An Unforgettable First Year

After the first consignment was delivered, the team was filled with a sense of pride and responsibility. It was at this time that DENSO introduced the ‘Alternator’ which replaced the ‘Dynamo’. This was a historic revolution in the four-wheeler electric power generator industry. The DC current producing Dynamo was replaced by more energy efficient as well as powerful AC generators called alternators.

While it was easy to sit on accolades and celebrate the success, the team realized it would be better to capitalize on this achievement to reach newer heights. It was an opportunity to not just sustain the momentum of the first consignment but accelerate it. The team quickly understood the need for consistent effort and extraordinary dedication.

The first year concluded with net sales of Rs 30 million, but the path ahead was filled with obstacles.
