DENSO European companies work with Treedom to raise environmental awareness and support sustainable ecosystems

Amsterdam, The Netherlands | 17 December 2020 – Several DENSO companies across the European region have joined forces to raise funds in support of the Treedom Project, an initiative that enables organizations to plant trees in different parts of the world and follow the trees’ story and progress at distance over time. This collaborative project is inspired by DENSO Group’s long-term commitment to making positive contributions to mobility and society, through its core business as well as through activities organized by its companies and associates.

In this first collaboration, 10 DENSO companies located in 7 European countries have contributed to the project, raising more than 20.000 EUR to fund the planting of 440 pomegranate trees in The DENSO Forest, in Sicily, Italy. With the capacity to absorb over 22,000 KG of CO2, throughout the course of the cycle, these trees will be photographed and geolocated, making it possible for them to be monitored from anywhere in the world. Combining environmental and social missions, the project also engages organizations through the various activities related to the maintenance of these forests and supports local communities, such as establish educational activities for children who suffer from autism. While Treedom’s tree-planting project directly supports agroforestry, its long-term goal is to realize sustainable ecosystems and ultimately allow farmers to ensure food autonomy and secure income opportunities over time.

This reforestation project in Sicily is a reflection of DENSO Europe’s continued support for Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action, as well as the group’s focus on CO2 neutrality in the coming years. Besides SDG 13, the project also contributes to the achievement of at least 10 other Goals that pave the way to more sustainable societies, including SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.
