SC Alternator (1999-)

SC Alternator succeeded in the early developmental stage by concurrent examination of the development team and the production engineering team.  In 1999, this activity produced a market leading Alternator with high efficiency, low noise, and that is compact & light weight by using Segment Conductors (rectangular conductor wire). This SC Alternator has been adopted in vehicles all over the world and in 2012 achieved a total global production of 100 million units.

The Motor Generator (MG) is a small, but powerful device that plays a crucial role in hybrid vehicles. It provides the main power to run the vehicle at the start and assists with acceleration, as well as energy recuperation when braking.
Using its experience with winding technologies in its world’s leading SC alternator, DENSO collaborated with Toyota Motor Corporation to develop a completely new stator for the Prius. The motor is smaller and lighter than the previous generation by more than 20 percent, and helps the Prius to achieve a fuel economy of 40km/L – the highest in the world.

A Power Control Unit (PCU) consists of products such as the inverters and boost converter, which control and converts the current between the battery and the motors. In 2007, DENSO launched high power and small PCUs with a unique cooling module. Today, DENSO delivers more than 600,000 PCUs to its global customers each year.

Hybrid vehicles are equipped with a high-voltage battery (200 V or higher) to efficiently power a high-output electric motor. The high-voltage battery consists of many low-voltage batteries connected in series. A Battery Electronic Control Unit (ECU) monitors the voltage and temperature (i.e. health) of each of these batteries in all conditions. DENSO developed a unique battery state detection technology in 1997, and now produces more than 1,500,000 Battery ECUs, annually.

    Engineers from DENSO Technical Centers around the world are involved in strategy making and technology development at early stages, to ensure DENSO provides products which fulfil our customer’s needs globally.

    Our technical centers also play an important role in maintaining the quality of our products globally by procuring high-quality parts in their local markets.

    Our mother plant, “Anjo (the name of the city our plant is located)”, has been developing and supplying mass-production process technologies to our plants around the world to achieve the same high “Monozukuri (manufacturing)” levels globally.
    Anjo Plant was founded in 1967 andwill continue to develop, produce and deliver key and unique electrification products for our customers.
    In addition, Anjo provides training and knowledge-sharing of our engineering tradition to the technical centers around the world, helping to develop the skills of our people.
