How DENSO is Fighting COVID-19 in Our Communities

Apr. 17, 2020

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (April 17, 2020) – DENSO is working on many efforts to combat the COVID-19 crisis across the North American region. First, DENSO’s philanthropic arm, DENSO North America Foundation, is donating to organizations across the North American region, where we operate, to help in their efforts to battle this pandemic. DENSO has always been committed to supporting the places we call home, and these grant recipients will be announced after they have all been notified.

A few weeks ago, we’ve also created a COVID-19 Cross-functional Community Contribution Task Force which will focus on:
1. Providing community donations through the DENSO North America Foundation
2. Providing in-kind donations, which include personal protective equipment (PPE) and other needed supplies from DENSO inventories to frontline health workers
3. Manufacturing PPE, such as face shields
4. Collaborating and supporting OEM and partners to manufacture medical equipment components
5. Sharing our engineering, manufacturing and business expertise with other organization to help battle COVID-19.

“We feel called upon to support our communities and those working so hard to protect us,” said DENSO’s North American CEO and Executive Officer Kenichiro Ito. “We’re grateful and hope our small contributions help improve the greater good. With our advanced manufacturing network and strong community ties, we’ll continue to look to use these assets to try to help as many people as possible.”

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve:
· Donated nearly 2,000 N95 masks, 2000 surgical masks and over 1000 nitrile gloves to hospitals in Michigan and North Carolina
· Started manufacturing and distributing thousands of face shields to protect local health care workers in Maryville, Tenn., and elsewhere
· In Canada, an employee of DENSO’s Guelph, Ontario, facility answered InkSmith’s call for people to 3D-print face shield components and is sending them to the company for assembly and donation to Canadian hospitals
· Began manufacturing components to help our customers COVID-19 efforts
· Collaborated with our customers and our supply chain to identify areas we can support and began implementing
· Joined a D-Wave project to give free access to a quantum computing systems that could facilitate medical breakthroughs to combat COVID-19

DENSO’s cross-functional task force team and other teams are currently working and executing activities to help combat and mitigate the COVID-19 crisis. While we may not share all activities, as they are collaboration projects with partners, we will share some of these activities and the DENSO Spirit actions our associates are taking to make a difference during this difficult time.
