Chapter 1: The Era of Founding (1949-)

(1) Establishing the Foundation of Safety

1970
As the cornerstone of our Safety and Health initiatives, our company established the “DENSO ANZEN Standards (DAS).” These standards have been rigorously upheld and widely ingrained within our company up to the present day.

Since our founding, we have always prioritized “safety.” However, entering the 1960s, the introduction of new production methods and the adoption of new materials in our production sites increased chemical and physical hazards. This necessitated the development of new safety standards to prevent accidents. Recognizing this as an urgent task, we began working on it and established the “DENSO ANZEN Standards (DAS)” in May 1970.

At the time of its establishment, DAS consisted of two sections: “Safety” and “Health.” Concurrent with its establishment, we conducted extensive training for department and section managers, as well as team and group leaders, to ensure thorough dissemination across all workplaces. Over time, DAS has undergone numerous additions and revisions, becoming more comprehensive in both quality and quantity. The fundamental concept was to create a workplace where each individual can voluntarily engage in safe behavior and consider the safety of their colleagues, thereby fostering mutual vigilance.

As the dissemination progressed steadily, DAS eventually reached a point where it was ingrained in the employees' consciousness as something that “must be absolutely adhered to.” The widespread and deep-rooted adoption of DAS has turned it into a “bible” for safety within DENSO, making it one of our company's invaluable assets.
