1. The Second Founding
2017-2024
(2) DENSO's Purpose
- 2017
- DENSO formulated new “Long-Term Policy” and a “Long-Term Vision” as a compass for its “Second Founding Period.” Emphasizing “green and peace of mind” as DENSO's Purpose, the company committed to a more positive management stance towards society.
The automotive industry was experiencing a “once-in-a-century major transformation,” which DENSO saw as a “growth opportunity.” To capitalize on this, DENSO needed to undertake bold Transformation with the determination to create a new company.
In October 2017, President Koji Arima announced the “DENSO Group 2030 Long-Term Policy” and the “2025 Long-Term Vision.” The “Long-Term Policy” outlined the future vision DENSO aimed to achieve by 2030, while the “Long-Term Vision” provided concrete goals to be achieved by 2025 as milestones toward that future.

The new “Long-Term Policy” centered on the paradigm shifts in the mobility society, including advancements in connected, autonomous, shared, and electrified vehicles. Under the slogan “Bringing hope for the future for our planet, society, and all people,” DENSO clearly positioned “green and peace of mind” as its Purpose. The keyword “Empathy” was also added, emphasizing the creation and global dissemination of new values centered on environment and safety.
By spreading joy and empathy, DENSO aimed to foster collaboration with new partners and generate innovative ideas. This approach was intended to create new values that DENSO alone could not achieve.
Even in the preceding 2020 Long-Term Policy, contributions to the environment and safety were incorporated. However, the focus was on minimizing the negative aspects of automobiles, such as reducing CO₂ emissions and preventing traffic accidents. In contrast, the new Long-Term Policy emphasized a more positive management stance. It focused on creating richer environments and providing more comfortable and free mobility, highlighting the importance of generating new positive values. This represented a significant shift in the company's approach.
