DRIVEN BASE

Driver Status Monitor

DENSO's Driver Status Monitor uses a camera to capture an image of the driver’s face and establishes the driver’s condition based on visual analysis. It detects carelessness, distraction and drowsiness, and then alerts the driver of any potential danger.

Feature

High-performance Image Recognition Technology

DENSO has mastered High-performance Image Recognition Technology. Because cabin brightness varies signficantly between day and night, DENSO uses near-infrared LED (which is invisible to the human eye) to adjust for darker conditions. This permits clear detection of a driver’s face, variances in facial and physical attributes, and changes in posture. Using a facial image database of more than 6,000 people, this intricate product is able to detect eye characteristics, which differ from person to person.

Technology

Image Capturing Technology

DENSO's Image Capturing Technology includes a camera capable of illuminating the driver's face with near-infrared rays. An optical filter reduces visible light to faciliate eye recognition when the driver is wearing sunglasses. The camera contains a CMOS image sensor that emits near-infrared rays to achieve optimal brightness, thereby improving recognition performance.

Lighting Control

DENSO has developed a proprietary lens that integrates a cylindrical lens with a prism to illuminate the driver’s face. Near-infrared rays emitted from the LED create optimal lighting control.

Image Recognition Algorithm

The driver’s facial image is analyzed using DENSO's Recognition Algorithm system which identifies facial features, including the eyes, nose and mouth, as well as facial contours. It detects driver behavior, including eyelid movement and the driver's position, to establish potential dangers, such as drowsiness.
