DENSO Wins METI's Minister Award in Organizational Category of Energy Conservation Prize
Kariya (Japan) -DENSO Corporation today received the Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award in the Organizational category of the Energy Conservation Prize. The prize recognizes individuals, groups, manufacturing plants, businesses, and other organizations for their distinguished achievements in promoting energy conservation.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award that recognizes our company-wide energy conservation efforts," said Sojiro Tsuchiya, Senior Managing Director overseeing DENSO's overall production affairs and Production Promotion Center. "DENSO will continue to work as a whole to promote greater energy conservation and help protect the global environment."
As energy conservation is one of the company's priorities in regards to environmental protection, in fiscal year 2007 DENSO established the CO2 Project Center and has been making concerted efforts to conserve energy across the company (see Example 1 below). Also, DENSO designs, develops and builds manufacturing equipment in-house, allowing the company to continuously adopt new energy conservation technologies when developing its manufacturing equipments (see Examples 2 and 3 below).
Outline in the below activities, DENSO achieved its reduction targets for CO2 emission intensity for fiscal 2010* -specified in the company's long-term environmental policy "DENSO EcoVision 2015" -in fiscal 2008, two years ahead of schedule.
DENSO's major energy-saving efforts
- Uncompromising dedication to energy conservation around the world: Perfect Energy Factory (PEF) activities
Energy-saving activities independently conducted in each department are shared within the company and its group companies to promote energy conservation practices across departmental boundaries. A total of 115 approaches, including reducing air consumption and improving lighting and air conditioning efficiency at production sites, have been designated as common practices for conserving energy. - Developing efficient manufacturing equipment in-house: Compact, Slim, Simple, and Speedy (CS3) activities
The reduction of energy, space and machinery cost for production systems is promoted by the in-house development of manufacturing equipment offering smaller size, simpler mechanisms and other efficiencies. - Optimal energy supply to production lines: Just-In-Time (JIT) energy activity
The Just-In-Time approach (providing necessary items, at necessary timing and with necessary amount) is applied to the energy management and energy supply systems. Through this approach, the company aims to realize an energy-efficient production system that can be adjusted to meet changes in production volume, for instance, optimal control of energy supply in response to production volume and eliminating standby power consumed by production lines while they are not operating.
