DENSO to Establish Technical Center in India

- Building a technology development system to support business growth -

KARIYA (Japan) - To expand its business in the rapidly-growing Indian auto market, DENSO Corporation will establish a technical center in Gurgaon, India, by the end of 2011. DENSO's investment in the new technical center will total approximately three billion yen (approximately US35.5 million*). The new technical center will be established as part of DENSO Sales India Pvt. Ltd. (DSIN), which will be renamed DENSO International India Pvt. Ltd. (DIIN).

"With the establishment of the technical center, we aim to improve our customer services and product competitiveness by promoting local development and designs that meet market needs," said Hikaru Sugi, senior managing director in charge of DENSO's Engineering Research and Development Center. "Transferring product development operations to the Indian market from DENSO's headquarters in Japan, will allow sales and technological functions to collaborate more closely and enable them to quickly respond to both the market and customer needs"

Activities at the new technical center will include: development of automotive technologies for powertrains, electric and electronic systems, information and safety systems, and small motors. Also, with the establishment (planned in Sep. 2010) of DENSO Subros Thermal Engineering Centre India Ltd.(DSEC), a DENSO subsidiary to design thermal products, DENSO will enhance its technology development system to support business growth in India.

Since last year, DSIN has been supporting operations of India group companies in business functions such as planning, procurement, legal and personnel. In accordance with these changes and the establishment of the technical center, DSIN is planning to be renamed DIIN.

DENSO started operations in India in 1984. In addition to DSIN and DSEC, it has four subsidiaries, which produce automotive air conditioning systems, fuel injectors, starters, alternators, and other devices.
